The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

In addition to the catalogue description:
- presumably the full sheet (Sheehan records a sheet size of 762 x 762 mm., the present is sheet slightly smaller, but does not look trimmed).
- with very pale light-staining.
- a short horizontal rubbing mark on the blue of the V, with some associated surface dirt, two very short dirt marks above.
- a few short creases in the subject, mostly visible in raking light.
- some soft cockling at the upper and lower sheet edges, mostly visible in raking light.
- a few minor, small pale stains in the left and upper margins.
- a rustmark in the right margin verso (not visible recto).
- hinged above and below verso.
