Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The prints in this copy of 11 Pop Artists, Vol. 2 have remained within the covers of the portfolio since it was acquired in 1969 from Sonnabend Gallery, Paris. As a result the colours are particularly bright, having not been exposed to light; this is rare as prints from this series, particularly the screenprints by Lichtenstein and Warhol, are often attenuated or have darkened over time. Several of the prints in the portfolio have pin-point foxing, or other time related condition issues. There is some wear to the original covers.
ROY LICHTENSTEIN, Reverie (Corlett 38): - the colours exceptionally bright, particularly noticeable in the brilliant yellow and red which on many impressions have darkened with time from exposure to light. - the full sheet. - some very faint variations in the pigment of the yellow hair, presumably intrinsic to the printing process. - a little unobtrusive rubbing in places to the matt-blue background, mainly upper right. - a 1 cm. elliptical handling crease in the yellow hair upper left, visible in raking light. - another small handling crease below the lower left border line. - some minor cockling to the sheet, in the upper and lower margins, mainly visible in raking light. - a few tiny abrasions in places at the upper sheet edge, and creases to the extreme sheet tips. - otherwise as described and in very good condition. Image 681 x 580 mm., Sheet 759 x 606 mm.
ANDY WARHOL, Jacqueline Kennedy II (Feldman & Schellmann II.14) - the lilac pearlescent background exceptionally bright (on many impressions of this print this colour has faded with time from exposure to light). - a very soft handling crease upper left, and some minor cockling in the upper sheet, mainly visible in raking light. - scattered pinpoint foxing verso. - otherwise as described and in very good condition. Image, Sheet 608 x 760 mm.
