Edo period (18th - 19th century)
Square with faceted corners, decorated in gold and silver togidashi and kirikane with a magpie perched on a lotus leaf on a roiro ground, the underside of the lid decorated in hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirikane, gold foil, inlaid silver and mother-of-pearl with plovers flying over a rocky outcropping above crashing waves on a nashiji ground, fitted with a copper water dropper
