Though most famous for her collection of objets d’art, Mrs. Wrightsman’s appreciation for the long eighteenth century was comprehensive. Mrs. Wrightsman also donated premier examples of Ingres’s portraiture, especially on paper, French manuscript illuminations, and an unusually large, multi-figure Boilly canvas that includes the famed portraitist’s own face.
