Lot Essay

The arms are those of Ewer of Burlesdon, Hampshire, a well known family of master shipbuilders, many of whom bore the first names of Thomas and Philemon. A memorial to Philemon Ewer (1702-1750) can be found in St. Leonards Church, Burlesdon.
