Lot Essay

Narcissa Thorne (1882-1966) was a Chicago artist renowned for her detailed and intricate dioramas and shadow boxes depicting historical scenes. Painstakingly constructed on a scale of one inch to one foot, many are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Phoenix Art Museum and the Knoxville Museum of Art.
