Waugh’s biography of Catholic Jesuit priest and martyr St. Edmund Campion, inscribed to John Betjeman: "John from Evelyn / Stinchcombe 1946." Campion's end of life reads like a tale of fiction: an English Catholic priest, poet, and martyr who was hunted, convicted for high treason, hanged, drawn, and quartered.
