Genesis, created in 2017, is Josie Bellini’s first “cryptoart”-themed piece and the iconic work that vaulted the artist into becoming one of “cryptoart’s” leading pioneers. The piece illuminates the beauty in uncertainty within Bear and Bull markets. Its subject can be seen looking up while wearing a bear-and-bull mask, an homage to the gods of the markets. Recycled paper lines the background, representing an antiquated form of capital that is superimposed on cryptoassets that were trending in 2017. After Genesis went viral online, Bellini devoted her full attention to advancing the adoption and ethos of Ethereum, Bitcoin and the digital art ecosystem. Although there was an open edition physical print release of Genesis, this unique NFT is the first and only unique digital representation created by the artist of this work. It is the only authoritative digital version of Genesis that exists or will ever exist.

Multidisciplinary creator Josie Bellini (b. 1994) is an acclaimed digital artist behind iconic digital art classics like Genesis, Filter, Yours Truly and others. A Chicago native, Bellini studied finance at Lake Forest College and went on to work at an asset management firm after graduating. She began investing in Ethereum and Bitcoin when she was frustrated by the barriers of the traditional finance world. The crypto community and overall ethos in the space catalyzed her interest that much further and led to her conduct a deep dive on how Ethereum works on a structural level and what the potential was for digital economies. This was a better way, a more transparent way, a fairer way.

Bellini left the traditional finance world and began coding courses at Northwestern University. She started creating digital works for startup blockchain and crypto companies around the US. In 2017, Bellini released her first digital art-related piece, Genesis. The artwork’s crypto themes led to it becoming an immediate hit within the crypto community, and not long after this piece Bellini started learning the ropes of augmented reality (AR) creations and NFTs. With her signature style and impassioned approach, she has since become a respected titan in the NFT space and has exhibited her artworks at conferences and galleries around the world and the metaverse. Bellini’s played a considerable role in helping NFTs and digital art break into the mainstream, and now she’s striving to advance NFTs even further with her two upcoming metaverse projects, CyberBrokers and MirrorWare.
