This painting is a reduced copy of The Good Shepherd by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617-1682), painted circa 1660, now in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no. P000962). The present copy likely dates from after Isabella Farnese's purchase of Murillo's original for the Royal Collection in Madrid in 1744.
