PATEK PHILIPPE, 18K GOLD, SCROLLED LUGS, REF. 1491
Reference 1491, launched in 1940, is a perfect example of Patek Philippe's continuous search for new and avant-garde innovations, whether in the movement of their watches, or, as in this instance, in the design. The unusual lugs of this model are the progenitor of the new era of watchmaking design that fully dawned in the sixties with unusual case shapes, stepped bezels and fancy lugs.
The most pleasant aesthetic combination, the two-tone champagne dial with with fifth of the second scale, this is the only one known so far in yellow gold with the V. Piguet sweeps seconds movement. To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The movement is ticking at the time of cataloguing, however a service may be beneficial in the future to be well preserved. The dial is original with nicely raised signature and outer minute track. The dial has aged and developed a light patina, some light spotting in places. The case is in good overall condition, a crisp hallmark is seen to the back od the top left lug. 1. All lots are sold "AS IS", and this condition report is provided purely as a goodwill service and may not specify all mechanical replacements or defects. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in good condition and without defects, repairs or restoration. You are accordingly encouraged to view the lots personally or through your own professional advisor. 2.
