PATEK PHILIPPE, GOLD PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH, REF. 2499 3RD SERIES
ThePatek Philippe reference 2499 is considered the ultimate statement watch, instantly recognizable and coveted by collectors of modern and vintage alike.
Introduced in 1951, it replaced the legendary reference 1518, the world's first perpetual calendar wristwatch with chronograph made in series. The 2499 remained in production until 1985, over the entire production run of nearly 35 years a total of only 349 examples were ever made. The 2499 incorporates an exceptional combination of complications: perpetual calendar, chronograph and moon phases.
Throughout this reference's history the features of the dial and case underwent four transformations. The first series featured a tachometer dial with applied Arabic numerals and square chronograph buttons. The second series also featured a tachometer scale with applied baton or Arabic numerals but with round buttons. The third series, made between 1960 and 1978, retained the round buttons but the dial is generally known to scholars with applied baton numerals and without tachometer. The fourth manifestation was nearly identical to the third except for the addition of a sapphire crystal.
An important wristwatch, the present reference 2499 in yellow gold will please the collector searching to obtain one of the most coveted references of the Patek Philippe manufacture. Attractive, the wristwatch has an instantly recognizable design. Featuring signs of restoration to the lugs, the watch bears a visible hallmark to its side and pleasing case proportions. The dial has been subject to restorations and retains a high level of attractiveness.
