Reference 5059 was launched in 1998 and produced through 2006. Along with the reference 5050, they were the only watches produced in that period by Patek Philippe that featured a retrograde date. Reference 5059 was also the first model since references 2497 and 2438/1 to feature sweep seconds with a perpetual calendar.
Approximately 600 examples of the reference 5059 were produced in yellow gold, with only 150 examples produced in each of the other metals; pink gold, white gold, and platinum. To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public.
