This superb example of a tourbillon is using an ébauche by Nicole, Nielsen with a two-armed carriage instead of the much more common three-armed variant, rendering it lighter hence more accurate.

The tree-body case is stamped FT for Fred Thoms, renowned for his exceptional cases supplied to the best English watchmakers for their most prestigious timepieces.

W. Lister & Sons Ltd, 32 & 34 Northumberland St., Newcastle-on-Tyne, were precision clock and watch makers since the beginning of the 19th century.

In 1853 the firm won the first place in the Greenwich chronometer trial, followed by others, also with considerable success (1858 - 3rd place, 1860 - 4th place).
