Lot Essay

This sequence of five etchings is distinguished by the very rough and irregular surface of the paper. Each impression printed looks somewhat different. A popular paper at the time, Dutch Linen contains flecks of color as well as metal filings from the screens used in the papermaking process. These filings occasionally showed up as rust spots after the paper was dried.
