Lot Essay

There are eight color variants for this print, each limited to an edition of six plus one artist's proof. The plate for the Roth-Händle images was made at Tyler Graphics Ltd. and used in Tobacco Roth-Händle. Motherwell wanted to use it again and gave it to Catherine Mosley for revision and editioning in Greenwich. Printer's proofs were made for some but not all Roth-Händle images. Because the same plate was used on all eight editions, only one cancellation proof exists.
