The 2021 Geneva Open marked Roger Federer's return to playing on European soil following a lengthy layoff. He had begun his debut season with an impressive victory over Dan Evans in Qatar and played in Geneva to gain match fitness on clay, ahead of the French Open and Wimbledon tournaments. Roger lost out in three sets to Spaniard Pablo Andújar in the second round.
