In 2012, Roger continued his incredible record of having reached every final in Basel since 2006. He narrowly lost out on the title to Juan Martin del Potro who won a final set champion's tiebreak to lift the trophy. The final score was 6–4, 6–7, 7–6 to the Argentinian.
