Lot Essay

After the success of her designs for windows at Tullabeg, Lord Crawford and Sir Jasper Ridley put forward Evie Hone's name for the commission for a new east window at Eton College chapel. The window was executed between 1949 and 1952, and was an 18-light panel depicting The Last Supper and The Crucifixion, with the figures of Melchisedech, Abraham and Isaac. The window is rich and elaborate, and is widely regarded as her masterpiece.
