Lot Essay
The present drawing appears to be a study relating to a portrait of the Marjoribanks family (illustrated P. Conner, George Chinnery, Woodbridge, 1993, p. 225, pl. 93). Charles Marjoribanks had joined the East India Company's Canton office in 1813, and in 1830 became President of the Select Committee, before returning home to England in 1832.

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The sheet is hinged along the top edge into an acidic mount, from which we would advise removal. There is a crease to the lower right, and some slight surface dirt. Otherwise the work is in good condition and the pen is strong.
