Lot Essay
Largely active in Dublin, Irish artist O’Brien is known for his detailed and delicate landscapes: views of Ireland, Wales and the north of England, predominantly on paper. He studied at the Dublin Society Schools, where he received a medal for drawing, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London from 1810-1816. He was also known under the German ‘Oben’ in London as he believed the works of foreign artist would receive more attention.

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The sheet is laid down onto an acidic board, in an acidic mount, from which we would advise removal. There are some cracks to the papers upper edge, and some old restoration visible in the centre left. There are also abrasions to the lower right of the paper and some losses to gum arabic. There have also been some changes to the blue pigments.
