The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Each with some scratches and wear throughout, consistent with age and handling; scattered minor kiln imperfections, in the making, including scattered popped bubbles, minute glaze gaps and tiny dark kiln specks; each also with a fine network of craquelure throughout, and overall with small glaze flakes, frits and small chips; a network of cracks throughout the hands and arms; each with its lower section previously off and restuck, a horizontal line of retouching across the upper arms and lower wings, and a large 'staple' repair to each side, at the reverse (not visible from the front). Individual details about each enumerated below:

One with a large of his wing missing to the right of his face (approx. 6 in. along the curve of the break), the broken edge with brown overpaint; the tips of four feathers reattached or restored at the opposite edge; further small chips around the feather-tips.

The other with further repairs to the upper left wing, several feather-tips and a crescent-shaped section at the right side, the latter also in four sections; further small chips around the feather-tips, the largest a loss to a full feather-tip at lower right; a chip to approx. ¹⁄₃ of the candle-nozzle; a small area of restoration to the proper left nostril.
