Lot Essay

The great-great-grandfather of the present lot owned the jewellery shop L. Guériat in St Petersburg at 14 Morskaya street, next to Fabergé, and struck up a friendship with Carl Fabergé during the early 1900s. The present lot was either a gift from Carl Fabergé or purchased from the firm. The great-grandfather of the present lot left Russia and his jewellery business at the outbreak of World War I in 1914 and joined the French army.
