The great-great-grandfather of the present lot owned the jewellery shop L. Guériat in St Petersburg at 14 Morskaya street, next to Fabergé, and struck up a friendship with Carl Fabergé during the early 1900s. The present lot was either a gift from Carl Fabergé or purchased from the firm. The great-grandfather of the present lot left Russia and his jewellery business at the outbreak of World War I in 1914 and joined the French army.

Good condition overall. The icon with fine craquelure throughout. Some of the wirework bands on outer and inner rims loose. Rubbing to gilding on silver mounts, especially along the edges. Otherwise, minor scratching and nicks to silver mounts in places consistent with age.
