The iron kapala damascened with silver with a crosshatch pattern, with a short inscription in Tibetan on the underside, covered with a fitted lid damascened with a scrolling lotus motif, below a raised dome in openwork surmounted by a half-vajra, all supported on a lotus-form base with three skull appliques

Lot Essay

The underside of the present lot is inscribed mChod dPon or "shrine master" in Tibetan U-Chen script, indicating previous use in ritual context. It is likely that this would have been part of a large set for exclusive use by the shrine master.
