Lot Essay

Compare the present lot with an example in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (acc. no. 2001.180), illustrated by D. LaRocca in Warriors of the Himalayas: Rediscovering the Arms and Armor of Tibet, New Haven, 2006, no. 77; both the present example and the Metropolitan spear are similarly decorated on the blade with flame motifs.
