A hoshi-bachi kabuto (helmet)
Edo-Meiji period (19th century)
The helmet in Kamakura period style with an eighteen plate bowl with prominent rounded conical rivets, with three shinchu (a brass-like alloy) shinodare ( vertical arrow-shaped decorative fixtures) to front and two to rear, the hachimanza (decorative surround to central aperture) of brass floral form, a mabisashi (peak) of shinchu with dragons in relief, shikoro (neck guard) of black-lacquered hon-kozane ( individual platelets), fukigeashi (turned-back portions of the shikoro) with shinchu plates of dragons matching the mabisashi, shinchu kuwagata ( stylized horns), fore crest of a later gold-painted dragon.
