From the Eocene (circa 50 million years ago), the 37 1/2-inch long specimen of Apalone heteroglypta, the shell well preserved with the skull and majority of leg bones intact, the specimen prepped in matrix to highlight impressive depth of the shell with excellent preservation to the shell texture, mounted and framed.

The present specimen is an exceedingly large fossil example of the Trionychidae family, and an ancestor of modern Pacific-dwelling turtles such as the Asian giant soft-shelled turtle.
