Lot Essay

Identifiable by its heavily armoured skull and ray-fins on either side of its body, Lepidotes elvensis would have thrived in the temperate waters of the Jurassic era, existing within an ecosystem of fish and cephalopods (like the present belemnite specimen). The slate matrix has been cut flat and polished to highlight the depth and natural beauty of each fossil specimen.
