ANDY WARHOL (1928-1987)
ANDY WARHOL (1928-1987)
Corice Arman Portrait
screenprint in black, on brown thin fibrous wove paper, circa 1979, a unique strike-off
Sheet: 40 ¼ x 28 1/8 in. (1022 x 714 mm.)
When creating a work on canvas for Andy Warhol, we first had to run what we call strike offs - prints produced by running the screen on paper in anticipation of a finalized work on canvas. The act of first printing on paper also assured you the ink was moving through the screen properly. You only got one hit on the canvas painted by Andy, so it had to be a good impression.
These preliminary prints were very often on brown wrapping paper you see in the present example. The Corice Arman strike off was an excellent hit! The quality was so good that I likely printed on the canvas just after that test run. – Alexander Heinrici
