Physical description:
295 x 190mm (11⅝ x 7½in.). Opaque pigments on paper, the haloed figure depicted dressed in white robes, holding an axe in his right hand, on a dark blue ground, in an oval format, within narrow polychrome borders, an identifying inscription in white nasta‘liq script above ‘tasvir-e hazrat-e isma‘il zabih allah alayha salam ’ (Portrait of Isma'il, the one sacrificed to God, peace be upon Him).
