Lot Essay
Living ten million years before its larger relative the Tyrannosaurus rex, and playing a simliar role in their paleoenvironment, Gorgosaurus libratus was one of the largest apex predators to walk the Earth at nearly 30ft. in length and 2.5tn. in weight.
The first specimen was found in Alberta, Canada in 1913 and given a name meaning 'fierce lizard'. The robust bone structures of this specimen are indicative of powerful legs used to prowl through lush floodplains in search of prey. The metatarsals of its foot were compressed to evenly transmit force for more effective running and its curved claws menacingly extended from its splayed toes.
