Overall in good condition, noting some natural brownish colouration to regions of the scallops and the the matrix, some stable cracks and losses to the surface of the fossilised shells commensurate with age, an area with cracks unobtrusively infilled to rear of matrix, a circular brass cartouche with preparator's mark inlaid into the reverse of the matrix towards the base. The underside drilled to support metal upright for mounting, the base of the stand seemingly of wood with metallic paint applied to create the effect of patinated gold.
