Lot Essay
Dr. Bernhard Hauff and his son Bernhard Jr. jointly founded the Hauff Museum of Natural History in 1937. They were highly respected in their field, entrusted with the preparation and preservation of fossil specimens discovered in the nearby Posidonienschiefer Formation in Holzmaden. The present specimen is one such fine example, expertly prepared by Hauff in 1947 as evidenced by the reverse stickers.

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in excellent condition, the specimen expertly and professionally prepared on shale matrix. Noting minor natural breaks to the extremities of the ribs. Three late 1940's stickers on the reverse: one red reading 'Vorsichtig!' [Fragile!], a B. Hauff sticker identifying the present species, and another B.H. Holzmaden sticker. The reverse to the frame with some areas of splitting, not interfering with the fossil specimen. Please note that this Lot is very heavy.
