Preserved in their final pose, these fossil Pectens, are the ancestors of today's modern (edible) scallop. Their surrounding host rock has been carved away to reveal their detail.
This plaque is overflowing with fossilized scallops, and if one looks closely then you can find a few fossilized sea snails who have been delightfully preserved as companions to their sculptural hosts.
The white patina of this beautiful plaque bestows the fossilized scene with an air of the contemporary. This sculptural monument sits comfortably into a modern collector's home, a statement to behold.
