The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This slice has been cut and polished to highlight its dark colors, caused by mineralisation, and reveal its inner structure of rings. The rings are visible, highlighted by their lighter grey coloring against the dark pigment of the fossilized wood. There are a few minor hairline cracks but these are testament to the nature of the wood and its age. On the reverse the slice is cut and polished, though the dark pigment is only present on one side whilst the other remains pale, mimicking the outer bark - this does not disrupt the slice's aesthetic quality but brings an interesting dialogue to the specimen as it highlights the relationship between the wood and the minerals which darken its core.
