From the Jurassic (circa 150 million years ago), the 13-inch specimen of Plesiotheutis prisca with tentacles writhing, in a fine state of preservation with the compacted head exhibiting clear crystals, with thin fossil vegetation to the front and reverse, preserved on both sides of original limestone matrix.

Lot Essay

In the present specimen, the visually arresting skull reveals a cluster of glittering crystal points. This is the result of mineral deposition during the fossilization process, rather than increased pressure on the specimen as it decayed.
