The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The case with age & construction cracks; some separation at joints. Scattered restorations, including to moldings, crestings/finial, at least one column, etc. The surfaces are dirty, with some rubbing to the gilded surfaces including strong rubbing on the lower moldings. The silvered mounts are tarnished and the capitals have small losses. The movement may have had a front swinging pendulum and there is an aperture above the dial through which it may have projected. The current movement is late 19th century French and has been adapted to fit this dial, although the winding holes are not original. The oval green hardstone mount below the dial covers an aperture. It is not clear what this would have been for originally. Significantly altered, although some elements are earlier than others; but it remains impressive and highly decorative. Further restoration to the case and a more appropriate movement will improve it considerably. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the working order of clocks.
