The set as medieval figures set throughout with paste gems and with composite heads, faces, and hands, all on circular bases chased with scrolling foliage and flowerheads and set with cabochon hardstones, the board of alternating squares of maple and walnut with a gilt metal border of scrolling foliage and raised on four gilt-metal bracket feet, all on an associated ormolu table cast with scrolls, the x-form stretcher centered by an agate urn with scrolled ormolu handles, the pieces marked on the base rim STERLING 925, some with mark of importer Israel Freeman & Son Ltd, London
