Each of baluster form with displaying swan-handles terminating in foliate scrolls, the high domed cover with acorn finial, painted with a military view within a broad raised gilt cartouche incorporating scrolling rinceaux and winged lions, the shoulder and neck applied with Napoleonic emblems including an eagle clutching lightning bolts, the reverse with a deserted battlefield, on socle foot and canted square base applied with fruiting laurel and tasseled festoons, the inside of the cover with spurious presentation marks for the Prince of Murat to the Princess Borghese

See The Property of Mrs. Carlota de C. Walsh, Christie's, New York, 28 October 1978, lot 165 front, back and catalogue cover for a nearly identical if not the same pair. The scene depicting Napoleon atop a white steed is adapted from La Bataille de Jéna, ou la Mort du Duc de Brunswick in Carle Vernet's 1806 series of Napoleonic propaganda engravings, Tableaux Historiques des Campagnes d'Italie.
