This soup tureen and stand were part of a service for 36 persons commissioned by Bolivian tin millionaire Isidoro Patinó in 1918. Initially, all the pieces of the service were engraved with the monogram of Patinó's wife Albina, though this has been removed from the present lot. Once completed, the full service was displayed in the Patinó mansion at 12 Place Vendôme, Paris, with the present lot and a second matching tureen and stand were displayed on the sideboard. Further pieces from this service were sold from in The Patinó Collection: Important English and Continental Silver and Silver-Gilt, Christie's, New York, 28 October 1986, lots 45-63.
