拍品專文

Originally created to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887, the later applied inscription around the base reading The Coronation Cup, 1897 indicates the adaption of this cup and cover to a racing prize for the Ascot ten years later. The Coronation Stakes, established in 1840 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Victoria two years prior, was won that year by the horse Goletta.
