On a tripartite base with scrolled shell and acanthus supports, engraved around the base with monogram AHF, a coat-of-arms, and the inscription Presented to Alexander Holdane Farquharson Esq. of Invercauld and Miss Zoe Musgrave on the occasion of their marriage by the Tenantry Feuars and Employees on the estate 16 January 1893, the stem of two twisting branches with further removable twisting leafy branches with grape clusters, supporting three double spiral branches supporting either candle sconces or cut glass bowls, the center with interchangeable raised light, or basket with cut glass bowl, with an original iron bound wood chest with brass plaque inscribed A. H. Farquharson Esq., marked throughout

Born in 1867, Alexander Haldane Farquharson was the son of Lt. Col. James Ross Farquharson (1834 - 1888) and Elizabeth Louisa Oswald (d. 1870). Alexander attended Eton College, followed by Christ Church, Oxford in 1888. He went on to serve in the 10th Hussars, gaining the rank of Lieutenant in 1889, and the 10th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders as a Major. In 1893, Alexander married Zoe Caroline Musgrave (1871 - 1929), and they settled at Braemar Castle, one of the family homes of the Farquharson clan. Alexander continued his military service, fighting in World War I in France between 1915 and 1918, while also holding the office of Member of the Aberdeenshire County Council between 1897 and 1935.

Overall with some very minimal scuffs, some bends to the leaves and vines, the branches, sconces, and removeable vine decorations all dot numbered, one removable vine decoration with replaced peg, good condition.

Fully marked on base, interchangeable central light with maker's, tax, and sterling marks, the basket with maker's, tax, sterling, and date marks, the sconces all with maker's, tax, and sterling marks, the branches fully marked, the removeable vine decorations with maker's, tax, and sterling marks, one with replaced peg and unmarked

Includes two larger glass dishes and eight small glass dishes despite only having space for one large and six small when assembled, one of the larger glass dishes with spiked rim and flutes, does not fit snuggly in basket mount and possibly later associated, the dishes overall with some scuffs and scratches as well as some nibbles to the edges consistent with age and use, some with some brown discoloration to the glass.

The chest overall with some nicks, marks, scuffs, and scratches as to be expected, some fading and discoloration to the wood, the interior lined in green felt, with two lift-out trays, with ribbon handles, the sides in marbled paper, with some wear, minor tears and areas of loss, and fading to all interior materials, with two keys and a wooden tag that reads Silver Box No. 1.
