Lot Essay

The 'Delph' mark to the present tankard was used by Swaine & Co. of Hüttensteinach and Köppelsdorf, Thuringia, Germany, on its line of Delft-style wares beginning in 1896. It ceased use of the mark in 1920, prompted by legal action from the Dutch Delftware firm, De Porceleyne Fles (also known as Royal Delft).
