Ancient Chalcatzingo in Mexico
Pen and Ink Drawings, c.1960s-71
PRATT, Frances (1913-2003). Original drawings for Chalcacingo (1971). [United States, c.1960s-1971.]

Pen-and-ink drawings for Pratt and Gays book on the art of ancient Chalcatzingo in Morelos, Mexico. Chalcatzingo, a Mesoamerican archaeological site in the central highlands of Mexico, thrived between 700 BCE and 500 BCE and left behind numerous examples of Olmec-style monumental art and architecture. Pratt’s drawings for Chalcacingo (Graz, Austria: Akademische Druck, 1971), with text by Carlo T.E. Gay, record many of these stone sculptures, reliefs, and ornamental designs in her signature pen-and-ink pointillist technique, using black and colored inks. All drawings are signed "Frances Pratt" in pencil, undated, with captions on verso and on verso of mats.

66 drawings on 66 leaves (407 x 336mm and smaller). All matted and housed in two cloth clamshell boxes (Zambrano Library of Congress call number labels on inside of boxes).
