COUNCIL OF THE INDIES – Ordenanzas del Consejo Real de las Indias. Nuevamente recopiladas. Madrid: for Julian de Paredes, 1681.

Second edition, revised, of the ordinances regulating the Royal Council of the Indies. Originally established in 1524 by Charles V for the administration of Spanish activities in the New World, these ordinances were subject to multiple reforms over the course of following century. Folio (295 x 205mm). Text within border. Engraved vignette on title, woodcut initials and ornaments. Contemporary vellum with spine dyed red, title in ink on spine (some sunning). Provenance: Ralph Vallone, Jr. (bookplate).
