Complete set of a pioneering work of Meso-American archaeology, mixed edition. Sabin called it "an almost indispensable supplement to Humboldt's Voyage en Amérique, as it contains many interesting discoveries not in the latter work." The first edition is dated 1834 in both volumes, and another edition was published in 1844; mixed sets as here are sometimes found. Brunet I:321; Palau I.85; Sabin 40038.

Lithographed title to atlas volume; 166 lithographed plates after drawings by Luciano Castañeda; engraved map (spotting, occasionally heavy, throughout). 19th-century red morocco over marbled boards, top edges gilt (wear to spines and corners). Provenance: Joaquín Cortina Goribar (1906-1991, Mexican historian; bookplate).
