GUADALUPE HIDALGO, TREATY OF – Tratado de paz, amistad, límites y arreglo definitivo entre la República Mexicana y los Estados-Unidos de America. Esposición dirigida al supremo gobierno por los comisionados que firmaron el tratado de paz con los Estados-Unidos. Querétaro: J.M. Lara, 1848.

First edition of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, inscribed by Francisco Madero, Mexican revolutionary leader and president. With the signing of this treaty, Mexico lost 55% of its territory. The treaty was signed at Querétaro, Mexico on 2 February 1848 and was transmitted to the United States Senate by President Polk in a message of 22 February. After various amendments, it was approved by the Senate on 10 March 1848. "The Esposición at the end of the 2 February text written by the hard pressed Mexican signatories in defense of the cession of California and New Mexico to the United States, has continuous signatures with the Tratado, and though it has a separate imprint is part of the Tratado" (Streeter sale I:281). Two parts in one, octavo (227 x 149mm). Double-columns with facing English and Spanish. Early 20th-century half sheep over green paper boards (spotted and rubbed; Zambrano library label on back endpaper).
