FINE BINDINGS – Account book. France, 18th century.

Wallet-style blank account book bound for Monsignor Valbelle, a French bishop.The exact identity of this bishop is unknown, but several ordinaries surnamed “Valbelle” were affiliated with the diocese of Saint-Omer in northern France in the 18th century. See Catholic-hierarchy.org(online).

Quarto (240 x 177mm). 18th-century French red morocco gilt, bishop's mitre ornaments on spine, green morocco linings, green silk pockets and gilt paper endleaves, red morocco label on wallet flap with name “Msgr. de Valbelle,” all edges gilt, metal clasp, cardinal arms on front cover.
