First edition on this classic work on deer hunting, in a contemporary red morocco for Louis Antoine Artois, Duc d’Angoulême.This work presents the different aspects of the hunting of deer and of the organization of the nerie royale, the deer hunts organized by the King of France. The author, born in Normandy, was premier veneurand commander of deer hunts under Louis XVI, to whom he remained attached for 56 years. Thiébaud 949-950; Souhart 501-502; Schwerdt II-p.305.

Quarto (263 x 196mm). 41 leaves of engraved music for hunting calls (marginal tears on a few leaves, occasional light spotting). Contemporary red straight-grain morocco gilt by Bradel, silk endpapers, all edges gilt, silk ribbon bookmark, with the arms of the Duc d'Angoulême on covers (extremities very lightly rubbed). Provenance: Louis Antoine of France, Duc d'Angoulême (1775-1844; binding).
