Sydenham Edwards' fine plateswere first published in Dickson's A Complete Dictionary of Practical Gardeningin 1807, and then republished by Stockdale in 1812 both under the present title and as The New Flora Britannica. Two volumes, quarto (295 x 224mm). Half-titles. 61 hand-colored engraved plates by F. Sansom after Edwards, numbered 1-60 and 19*, some with tissue guards (first few leaves short, one leaf with missing blank corner, some soiling at edges). Contemporary straight-grained red morocco gilt (wear at extremities with some scuffs to boards). Provenance: Henry A. Couper (armorial bookplate with motto “tuum est”).
