Cologne portable edition of the Sistine Vulgate Latin Bible, in contemporary green morocco.The Sistine (or Sixtine) Vulgate is the edition of the Vulgate published in 1590, prepared by a commission on the orders of Pope Sixtus V and edited by himself. It was the first edition of the Vulgate authorized by a pope. Darlow & Moule 6181 (for 1590 first ed.).

Six volumes, 16mo (113 x 58mm). Engraved titles (old ownership inscription excised at bottom of four titles with loss of 2-3mm and a few lines of text). Contemporary olive green morocco, dentelle borders, all edges gilt, silk ribbon bookmarks. Provenance:Jacques Vieillard (bookplate).
